These answers are staff and weather permitting, we reserve the right to alter things to suit the prevailing situation. If your question is not covered please send us an email.

Q. How much does it cost.
A. See the ride descriptions.

Q. What time are the rides.
A. The times are on the Our Rides page. Remember you need to get here 1/2 an hour before your ride time.

Q. Where are you.
A. See the map.

Q. Will you ride for one person.
A. Yes for the 1 hour but not for the 2.5 hour.

Q. Are bookings essential.
A. Yes, we could be full or even closed if the weather is not suitable. Advance bookings will need to be paid for.

Q. What do I need to wear.
A. Closed shoes are essential e.g. trainers or walking shoes. ‘Slip on’s’ or jandals are not suitable. We have a small range of footwear available for customer use. Long trousers are also essential, especially for the 2.5 hour ride. Keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately, a lightweight waterproof and sun block could be useful.

Q. What is the weather going to be like.
A. I think I will defer this question to a higher authority. I would not be working here if I could predict the weather!

Q. What do we need to know.
A. Anything out of the ordinary such as:-
· Impairments physical, mental, language.
· Weight and height if above or below average.
· Ages for younger than 16 and above 60.
· Contact details for guardians of under 16′s.
· Ride length, date and time.
· Special requirements.

Q. What is the minimum age.
A. This depends upon size and confidence of the child, normally five would be the minimum for the 1 hour trek. We only take one under 10 year old per group, any other children would need to be able to control their horse. We do not allow two riders on a horse at the same time, it is too dangerous.

Q. What happens if it rains/snows/fire risk.
A. If we cancel due to unforeseen circumstances or extreme weather your money will be refunded.

Q. What is the group size.
A. We usually have a maximum of 6-7 riders per trek leader.

Q What happens if I cancel.
A. We need 48 hours notice for a full refund, after which partial refunds may be possible.

Q What happens if Hanmer Horses cancels the ride.
A. Your money will be refunded.

Q. Do you cater for disabled riders.
A. We have a limited capability and we need to know of any physical, mental or language impairment at the time of booking. The rides are strenuous and too long for an assistant to walk alongside. Special arrangements may be possible.

Q. Do I need to wear a helmet.
A. Yes.

Q Do you ride English or western.
A. English with English saddles and bridles.

Q Do you gallop.
A. No, but there are canter stretches available on the rides for experienced riders only. These are only used at the trek leaders discretion. Safety is our main concern, you may need to go elsewhere for an adrenalin fix.

Q. Where do you ride.
A. All our rides are scenic with a variety of hillside, forest, bush and farm land. The 1.5hr & 2.5hr rides have river crossings and potential canter stretches.

Q. Do you do pony rides.
A. Yes, but the treks have priority for our horses and time. We hire you a pony and you lead it around the permitted area.
